Parent, children, brothers & sisters, best friend, close friends, cousins ... And the list goes on. Relationship, something so precious & fragile.
As path of life diverged, even close friends whom we know for many years may drift apart. Was it a lack of contact or just because our environments are far too different now?
Over msn chat on thurs, Eileen & I through a short conversation shared the same sentiment. Eileen was one of my closer friends in ACJC. I remembered telling her that these disappointments about our close ones not being there for us only led me to conclude how my trust/ confidence should never rest in man but in God alone. Cliche but this lesson never fails to repeat itself.
On friday, this message of relationship kept appearing too.
Firstly, it was through the book Purpose Driven Youth Ministry in the morning that I was reading. For cell discussion we had to read chapter 11 which talks about programs for youth ministry. The author felt strongly that relationship should be placed first when it comes to program planning and this will help to overcome the going in there and getting things done mentality. Ok, relationship.
Then it was through the movie, "Just Like Heaven" in the afternoon. Not the romance part definately but it was when Elizabeth told David that when she reflected on what she had done her whole life , she could not remember much except for work. It was to the extent where she had no time for a boyfriend or soical life cos she worked in the hospital almost the entire day. She was so miserable at that moment while reflecting becuase she thougth she would die any moment & had realised what she had missed out only at that point in time.
That struck me hard. Will work eat into my social life in the future? Had school work taken away a huge part of my time in the past?
The theme of relationship appeared while I was preparing for dlt too. In the book of Hosea & Zechariah, the people of Isreal have strayed away from God & thus losing their first love for Him. Nevertheless, God was slow to anger and was constantly turning the people back to Him through the prophets' messages.
Have I been trading relationship building time for something that is worth less than that?
